A Minot hunter says it was an honest mistake, and that he could have walked away but he wanted to do the right thing.
47-year old Ken Herslip has been cited for shooting a mountain lion that was too young to be shot under new state rules.
Herslip told authorities he did not know the cat was young since it was shot under low light and rainy conditions.
A Game and Fish official says the young lion weighed 26-pounds and, even though it was considered too young to meet state regulations, it will count toward the five cat quota for this year's mountain lion season in the state.
