Killing of 8th female closes SD cougar hunting season

11/19/2006

The hunting season on mountain lions in the Black Hills is closed. It ended Sunday when an eighth female lion was killed.

Hunters reported killing three lions Sunday -- two of which were females. That brought the number of female lions taken by hunters to the season-ending quota of eight.

In all, 15 lions were killed since the season began November first. Eight were females and seven were males.

Hunters today took lions west of Spearfish, north of Rochford, and northeast of Nemo.
