A hunter using a doe-fawn bleep call successfully called in and killed an adult male mountain-lion Saturday.
The mountain-lion, a 4-year-old male weighing 146 pound,s was harvested seven miles north of Custer, according to Mike Kintigh, regional supervisor for the state Game, Fish & Parks Department.
“He was a big one,” Kintigh said.
The lion is the fifth kill since the 2006 Black Hills mountain-lion season opened Wednesday. The season limit is eight females or 25 total lions. So far, two females have been harvested. The season ends either December 31 or when quotas are reached.
Lions shot in the Black Hills must be checked in at GF& P’s regional office within 24-hours of being harvested.
