Srinagar: Acting on the orders of Chief Wild Life Warden, police has killed a leopard in Sanjimulla Handwara on Thursday. According to SP Handwara Dr Haseeb Mughal, the people of Rajwar, Qaziabad, Ahgam, Rajpora, Mawar, Zachaldara, Sanjimulla and adjoining villages were living under the fear of a leopard. The leopard had attacked 12 people and killed a girl, besides killing cattle in some villages of Handwara. "On Wednesday, the leopard had killed three sheep in the area," Haseeb said.According to Haseeb, a Govt order No: CSCR/Camp/SGR-RWLW/K/WLW (N)-04-05 dated 11/11/2006 and Chief Life Warden J&K, order No: 190/2006-2007 dated 13/11/2006 were issued to kill the animal. "Acting on these orders, Handwara police traced the animal in village Sanjimulla Handwara and killed him," he said. The killing of leopard has come as a huge relief to the people of the area who have appreciated the police role in safeguarding their life. GKNS
