Panaji (PTI) The Supreme Court appointed Central Empowered Committee is still in the dark about the controversial killing of the Royal Bengal tiger by poachers in the Sattari's Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary.

The committee had not been intimated about the poaching by the forest department in Goa, Sanjeev Chadda, Member Secretary of the committee told PTI.

"We need to formally inform first. We will then ask for a report from the state government in the issue," Mr. Chadda said.

Incidentally, the forest department, which was informed about the incident by wildlife activist Rajendra Kerkar, are now pressurising the latter by laying the onus of proving the existence of the tiger poaching on him.

Chief conservator of forests Shashi Kumar said that it was up to Kerkar to tell them who first gave him the photo, which showed the dead tiger.

Mr. Kerkar, however, said he has told all the relevant details to the forest department officials.

He also said that the tiger caught in the trap was actually shot dead by the poachers, the fact which is ignored by the forest department.

The photograph clearly shows the bullet injuries which means that the tiger was shot dead, he said.
