Male tiger to be translocated to Panna reserve

Bhopal/Panna: With the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) on Friday confirming reports that there was no tiger in the Panna Tiger Reserve, the state Forest Department officials are now pinning hopes on translocating a male big cat to this reserve to revive its population.
“We are going to bring a tiger to Panna Reserve from some other tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh once our proposal in this regard with the Centre gets the nod,” State Principal Chief Conservator of Forest H S Pabla said on Saturday.
Already two tigresses had been translocated in the reserve to revive the big cat population in the first fortnight of March, he added.
A three-member team of the SIT, headed by NTCA former Director P K Sen, after camping in the reserve for two days told reporters in Panna on Friday that no tiger had been spotted inside the reserve.
The SIT team had come after reports that the lone tiger has not been located in the reserve since January, and left for New Delhi on Friday.
The team, comprised of NTCA Joint Director S P Yadav and Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun, Scientist Qamar Quershi, will submit its report to the Centre by this month-end. - PTI
