Proposal to form Tiger Police Force

BAHRAICH: There is a proposal to form Tiger Police Force (TPF) to check poaching, illegal felling of trees and infiltration of anti-India elements through Nepal border. A plan has been chalked out and sent to the government for approval. The selected PAC constables will be part of the TPF. They will be imparted special training and equipped with modern weapons.

Divisional forest officer (DFO) Wildlife RK Singh said that the Katarniaghat reserved forest area is connected with Nepal border where rare species of animals exist. Poachers often target snakes, tortoises, tigers, antelopes and other rare animals and indulge in smuggling to China through Nepal.

The DFO said that Shashtra Seema Bal (SSB) keep vigil. The forest department and the police have prepared plan to hand over the security of the reserved forest area to special force named as Tiger Police Force. It will have one battalion of PAC comprising 150 constables.

Watch towers, equipped with searchlights would be erected in all the six ranges of the forest area to keep vigil. Constables of TPC will keep an eye on the poachers and others. Gairwa, Kodiyala, Ghaghra and Saryu rivers flow through the forest area. Timber smugglers are active in the region. They cut the trees and throw the pieces into the rivers. The wood pieces are taken out by the smugglers. The TPF personnel will also guard the rivers through boats.

Close circuit cameras will also be installed to stop smuggling and illegal felling of trees. The DFO said that a detailed proposal has been forwarded to the government.
