Iberian lynx casualty

Fri, 04 September 10:34 2009

THE dead body of an Iberian Lynx has been found dead on the road from Almonte to El Rocio in Huelva, according to a spokesman from Ecologistas en Accion at DoƱana National Park. It seems the dead animal was a young female.

The Iberian Lynx is an increasingly endangered species and, unfortunately, several get run over by vehicles every year. In March, another young female, which had two cubs and had previously been shot at, was also killed on a rural road in Villamanrique de la Condesa in Sevilla.

A 26-million-euro conservation plan has been put into place. But Ecologistas en Accion are questioning how effective the measures are, when the main cause of death of lynxes is being run over and nothing has been done to prevent them accessing the roads.
