Special tiger protection force to be set up

Bhopal, Dec 3: The forest department would constitute Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF) for the tiger reserves at Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Pench. As per directives issued by the National Tiger Protection Authority, three companies of STPF would be formed.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) RS Negi informed that each company would be headed by assistant Conservator of Forests and three tiger force area officers would help him. Each company would have 18 tiger force foresters and 90 special tiger guards.
Member of STPF can work in the company up to the age of 40 years and after that his services would be merged with forest department. In place of them new recruitment would be made to the STPF.
There would be three platoons in each company. Each platoon would have one tiger force area officer, 6 tiger force foresters, and 30 special tier guards. 30 per cent of the special tiger guards would be from local population. Each company would work under the concerned tiger reserve area director.
Members of STPF would be given special training from the state police and paramilitary forces. Members of the STPF would be given modern weapons and facility of telecom network.
