India: Leopard cub starts walking

Bhopal, Jan 27 (PTI) A seven-month-old leopard cub brought last week in a critical condition from Sehore district to the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Van Vihar Zoo here, today started walking, officials said.

"This female leopard cub was brought from the wild of Ashta tehsil in Sehore in a critical state on January 22 and it was unable to stand on its hind limbs," Atul Gupta Veterinary specialist at the Rescue Centre told PTI.

"We operated the cub's hind limbs at Friday midnight itself after which its condition improved and now it has started walking," he said.

The cub might have been injured by villagers, after it got strayed and lost its contact with mother leopard, Gupta said.

The cub was too small to go for the kill, he said, adding that it be freed in wild after it recovers fully.
